Ron was formerly a botanist at the University of Tasmania. Although he retired from his position some years ago, he did not retire from the Epacridaceae. His interest in this plant group has continued whilst he has been a research associate at the Tasmanian Herbarium. This article summarises alterations and additions to Tasmanian epacrids since the article published in Australian Plants, vol. 21 nos. 166-169. Of major significance is the general acceptance by current taxonomists that the family Epacridaceae should be reclassified as the Sub-Family Styphelioideae within the Family Ericaceae. However, this reclassification at the family level does not affect the lower levels of the taxonomic hierarchy. At the 'hands on' level, growers and field observers can still refer to the plants by the familiar names of the genera and species they have always used.
