摘要

As a collective scientific regional plant collection the Botanic Gardens of Queensland grow thousands of significant taxa. These articles prepared by a number of regional botanic gardens show only a small insight into the diversity of Queensland's vegetation. Each contribution is an inspiring introduction into the incredible work behind the scenes planning, planting, recording and maintaining plant collections and displays for the visiting public, academics, horticultural professionals and very critically the younger generation. Our highly urbanised cities and towns offer all too few opportunities for adults, let alone children, to explore and investigate the intricacies of Australia's unique plants that have evolved in an incredible range of environments. Across the state, Queensland's botanic gardens invite discovery and they also offer opportunities for involvement. Almost all are supported by the amazing work of volunteers, and many of these articles were provided by members of Botanic GardensFriends Associations.
