Lotte von Richter has been a technical officer at the Australian Botanic Garden for 19 years. She has worked on developing Flannel Flowers as a cut flower crop, carried out seed germination studies and assisted in Cumberland Plain Woodland research.In 1984 the site chosen for a new Botanic Garden in Sydney's south-west was surveyed by Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney staff who recognised that a vital piece of natural vegetation existed within its boundaries. This remnant vegetation had survived for decades as large Eucalypt trees in cultivated paddocks. The land was set aside as 'not to be developed' during the Botanic Garden construction phase.
