Roger spent 35 years as an entomologist at CSIRO in Canberra travelling widely throughout Australia on different projects but always maintaining a strong interest in the local flora and fauna. After 'retirement' he joined ANPS and has been a regular member of the Wednesday Walkers group as well as a field trips organiser and has continued writing on plants and insects.
