SNOWBOARD CHAMPION CHRIS RUNGE HAND-BUILT HIS OWN VERSION OF PORSCHE'S FIRST RACE CAR. A STURDY DAIRY BARN outside a small town halfway between Omaha, Neb., and Bull-winkle's Frostbite Falls, Minn., became the ideal spot for a "resto-creation" of a Porsche single-seat road-going sports car. Finished last summer by Chris Runge, a 33-year-old former snowboard champion and lifelong Porsche nut, the car is nicknamed the Frankfurt Flyer. The moniker was inspired by the Glockler-Porsche mid-engine aluminum specials that inspired Porsche's "giant killer" 550s of the mid-1950s.
