Eight years ago, underwater photographer Wayne Osborn was inducted as an International Fellow of the prestigious New York-based Explorers Club for his contribution to raising awareness of the marine environment, and today he continues to use his dramatic whale photos to raise funds for conservation. However, it was his intriguing image of three inquisitive, glowing squid that captured the attention of judges Ofer Levy, Ted Hamilton and myself, as we deliberated on this year's anzang photo competitionat the South Australian Museum, Adelaide. We awarded Wayne's photo (see page 79) the anzang Nature Photographer of the Year prize — the top honour.
