We refer to the recent paper by Muhm, Signal, Rock, Jones, O'Keefe, Weaver, et al. (3) concerned with the oxygenation, sleep quality, and post-sleep performance of aircrew during simulated flights of extended duration (18 h) in a cabin held at 8000 ft (2438 m). The cognitive studies were concerned with learned behavior and, though there was a pronounced degree of oxygen desaturation over many hours, there was no reported evidence of impairment. This would accord with early evidence that the authors may have overlooked (1,2).
