A new high intensity flotation process trialled at Pasminco Mining's concentrator at Broken Hill last year has applications for difficult to float and fine grained minerals below 10pm particle size. The trials of the Fastflot prototype at Pasminco to recover residual zinc from the zinc tailings circuit resulted not only in the recovery of fine particles, but also those greater than 200um which conventional flotation cells failed to recover. The Pasminco trials showed that the tail stream of the concentrator has a zinc content ranging from 0.3-1.2 percent depending on whether the circuit is in tune. Of this, a four-stage Fastflot process recovered 21.4 percent of zinc available.
