摘要

Rodents, the gnawing mammals, cause severe economic losses by direct damage and by transmission of diseases in poultry farms throughout the world. Poultry premises provide the most favorable and stable habitat to large rodent populations due to the abundant availability of food from feeds and poultry products (eggs and chicks) ami shelter throughout the year. The high carrying capacity of a poultry farm habitat for rodents is evident from the reports of 3000 mice/sq. meters area in Texas, 3000 rats/30,000 sq. ft. in California, 1800 mice/sq meters in Indiana, 196 rodents/2205 sq. ft. and 292 rodents/3600 sq. ft in India and 8738 mice from one poultry farm in Kuwait.
