The Varanasi Local Centre of the Institution organized the Twenty-fifth National Convention of Metallurgical and Materials Engineers during January 23-24, 2012 on the theme "Design and Development of Materials for Advanced Technologies" at Varanasi. Mr B B Singh, Director (Personnel & Technical),Steel Authority of India Ltd, New Delhi, graced the occasion as Chief Guest. In his address, Mr Singh highlighted the importance of practical metallurgy and its vast domain in the Indian Steel Industry. Mr K K Mehrotra, Chairman of the Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Division Board (MMDB) of the Institution, highlighted the importance of advanced materials with much improved electrical and mechanical properties and its subsequent application in core sectors including steel and power.
