摘要

Coke is used in the blast furnace for ironmaking. Apart from the usage in blast furnace, coke is also used for melting pig iron in cupola, for ferro-alloys production in electric smelting furnace and in chemical industries. Amongst these, blast furnace is the bulk consumer of coke. Blast furnace technology continues to remain the main source of ironmaking for the production of steel. Therefore, a major share of coke production is aimed to meet the requirement of blast furnace, both in respect of quantity as well as quality. The performance of these furnaces, to a great extent, depends on the quality and the cost of coke, which constitutes a significant portion of the hot metal cost. However, with good quality coking coals getting scarce and costlier, cokemakers are to deal with increasing challenges for the production of premium metallurgical coke at competitive rates.
