A laboratory experiment was conducted to study the physic-chemical properties of different soils of five blocks in coastal region of West Bengal. Fifty two soil samples from five blocks named Falta, Diamond Harbour, Kulpi, Mandirbazar and Mathurapur in South 24 Parganas district under the coastal zone of West Bengal were selected for present investigation. Different physic-chemical properties of soils viz. pH, Organic carbon, Organic Matter, Specific conductance, CEC and Olsen P were also determined.The result reveals that the value of Olsen P ranges from 6.5-30.5; 12-16.50; 14.0; 5.5-66.50 and 6.5-30.5mg kg1 with a mean values of 15.41; 13.62; 14.0; 13.11 and 9.57 mgkg1 inFalta, Mandirbazar, Mathurapur, Kulpi and Diamond Harbour blocks respectively. The amount of organic carbon varies from 3.68-20.07; 4.20-8.41; 5.73; 3.04-8.37 and 0.38-5.13 g kg"1 with a mean values of 9.50; 6.93; 5.73; 5.23 and 2.93 g kg"1 in Falta, Mandirbazar, Mathurapur, Kulpi and Diamond Harbour block respectively. The total soluble salt concentration of soils of all 5 blocks under study were found very low while that of the soil pH was recorded neutral to alkaline in most soils. Significant negative correlation was found between organic carbon content and soil pH while non-significant positive correlation between Olsen P and organic carbon, EC, CEC of soils were found.
