A field experiment was conducted during winter season of 2004-05 and 2005-06 to study the effect of farmyard manure (0 and 51 ha~(-1) ), phosphorus levels (0, 20 and 40 kg P2 O5 ha~(-1) ) and phosphate solubilizing bacteria (no inoculation and inoculation) on growth yield and quality of lentil (Lens culinaris). PSB inoculation brought down the mortality percentage over uninociilated plots during both the years. Application of FYM @ 5t ha-1 recorded significantly improvement in gram yield (6.3% and 26.9%), dry matter accumulation and total protein yield. Increase in grain yield (14.3 and 26.2%) and total protein production was significant with the application of phosphorus @ 40 kg P2O5 ha-1 over control. PSB-inoculation improved grain protein production significantly; however, improvement in grain yield was not significant due to inoculation.
