The foraging ecology of the Black Drongo (Dicrurus macrocercus) was observed in an agro-ecosystem of Nagapattinam District, Tamil Nadu, India during 2004 and 2006. Foraging variables included perch types, perching height, foraging height, foraging substrate and foraging methods. Among various perch types, the Black Drongo used 57.87 per cent electric power lines. In general perches of 6-9 m high were highly preferred and foraging (caught insect) at 0-3m height was relatively higher than other heightranges. The use of gleaning was relatively higher (65.17%) than other foraging methods. The regurgitated pellet analysis revealed that the coleopteran insects were the most frequent items (22.00%) in the diet of Black Drongo followed by hemiptera and hymenoptera.
