The LT50 value (lethal time to kill 50% test insect) was calculated to determine the safest and poisonous insecticides among endosulfan at 0.05%, cypermethrin at 0.006%, monocrotophos at 0.05%, dimethoate at 0.04%, neem seed kernel extract (NSKE) at 5.0 and Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) at 0.2%, sprayed on potted plants of tomato. Twenty freshly emerged adult parasitoids (T. brasiliense) were released in glass vials coated with the treated leaves. The LT50 value was highest (114.26 h) for endosulfan, followed by cypermethrin and monocrotophos with 60.14 and 33.17 h, respectively, for 2 h exposure period. The other insecticides with low LT50 values were dimethoate (2.65 h) and NSKE (1.85 h). All the insecticides tested were less toxic to the parasitoid than endosulfan. The order of residual toxicity of the 6 insecticides in descending order was: endosulfan > cypermethrin > monocrotophos > dimethoate > NSKE > Bt.
