The Petersen family has successfully grown sugarcane in the Hervey Bay and Maryborough districts for many years. But a few years ago they began to seriously question the longterm viability of the farming systems they had in place. In fact they didn't just question it, they decided to do something about it. Working with two extension officers from the Bureau of Sugar Experiment Stations (BSES), the Petersens embarked on the very deliberate development and implementation of a new farming system
