Sir, I write in relation to Stephen Hancocks' assertion that there is no involvement with hackers or hacking at the BDJ. Sadly, based on the current evidence, I must disagree. In the recent past, in the BDJ and other dental publications, I have seen examples of blatant hacking of sound tooth enamel apparently being undertaken to 'treat' minor cosmetic or wear problems. I read these articles with mounting horror as relatively innocent looking teeth are massacred on the altar of porcelain veneers. This often appears to be done because these healthy teeth have dared to lose a few microns of surface enamel or may have had the temerity to exhibit minor irregularities in their shape, colour or positions.
