摘要

A case of incomplete cervical dilatation associated with simultaneous presentation of twins with postural defects in a doe is reported in this communication. The case was successfully handled by medicinal treatment followed by obstetrical intervention. Incomplete dilatation of cervix is one of the commonest maternal causes of dystocia in goats and sheep (Noakes et al., 2001). Lateral deviation of head and flexion of joints are other causes of dystocia followed by relative fetal oversize in these species (Purohit, 2006). Noakes et al. (2001) reported that twin pregnancy along with maldisposition in primigravida is a more common cause of dystocia. Incomplete dilatation of cervix is more common in ruminants due to its tough fibrous structure with substantial amounts of collagen. Hormonal imbalance or altered endocrinology has also been suggested as a cause of the condition (Das et al, 2008). The present communication reports a case of incomplete cervical dilatation in a primigravida doe associated with postural defects in a twin pregnancy and its successful management.
