摘要

The effect of a comprehensive watershed management programme in the title area in Uttar Pradesh, India was evaluated. The technology was sound, economically viable and ecologically sustainable. The impact of various soil and water conservation measures e.g. contour bunding, land levelling and smoothing, gully plugging, contour furrow, vegetative barriers and sunken structures was highly effective and resulted in an overall increase of 20 to 25 per cent in the yield levels of wheat, barley, bengal gram [Cicer arietinum], pea, lentil, soyabean, groundnuts and sorghum. The wells in the project area showed good groundwater recharge during the operational period.
