Specimens of Agrostis eriantha were collected from wetlands at the Rietvlei Nature Reserve and the Grootfontein Agricultural Holdings in South Africa. The specimens were identified as A. eriantha var. planifolia based on callus hair morphology. The callus hairs of these specimens and of 94 herbarium specimens of A. eriantha var. eriantha were studied. The callus hair length varied between the specimens and within the same specimen. Thus, the variation in callus hair length is not a reliable character to distinguish between the varieties of O. eriantha.
