摘要

Though grey iron and ductile iron are vastly produced and used materials in automobile applications they need stringent monitoring during the different stages of production. In this paper, grey iron, ductile iron grades used for manufacturing of automobile parts have been identified. Microstructure and mechanical property requirement of these grades and importance of section thickness on achievable properties have also been discussed. Heat treatment and other metallurgical considerations related to these materials have also been discussed.
