Tropical climate is characterised by high temperature, low humidity and high rate of pathogen multiplication. Tasar silkworm is reared in open habitat and there is a need to achieve improvement in survival, crop stability and higher productivity. Allattempts were made to introduce simple viable technologies in Bastar region of Chhattisgarh for development of tasar enterprise. Earlier, Krishnaswami (1986) introduced the practice of chawki rearing and use of bed disinfectants in mulberry sericulture for attaining higher sur vivability. In order to improve the productivity for attaining higher sustainability of tropical tasar, the following three new technologies were transferred to field. 1. Integrated package for rearing (IPR): It includes "Chawki"garden of 70 T-arjuna bushes (4' x 4') pruned at 3' height and supplemented with chemical fertilizer (NPK) @ 100:50:50 kg/ha/year) and FYM @ 4 kg/plant/year. These 70 bushes were covered with a nylon net of size 40' x 30' x 10' to protect larvae from predators and parasites. On 2nd day after 2nd moult, the worms were transferred to regular plantations maintained at 6' height for late age rearing. 2.
