Prices for this classic Ferrari are within reach of the common man, but not for long. The Movember of the car world, the Ferrari 308 is inextricably linked with the facial topiary of a certain Magnum PI. However, that association has done little to dent the car's appeal, with Tom Selleck's moustachioed character enjoying a playboy lifestyle of fine wines, plentiful female company, a prized Rolex and, of course, a Rosso Corsa 308 GTS. Today, the Ferrari 308 GTB and its GTS relative are available for real-world budgets, but don't expect that to remain the case for long. Introduced in 1975 and running through to 1985, the 308 GTB replaced the pretty Dino 246. To many, it is the archetypal Ferrari. Jeff Fosker, owner of Ferrari specialist Foskers (01474 874777, foskers.com), reckons they're a good starter Ferrari. "Very little goes wrong with them if they're properly serviced and maintained," he says. Doing so needn't be expensive, either, the 308 being a relatively simple car beneath that beautiful Pininfarina-designed body. "None of the servicing jobs requires the engine coming out," adds Fosker. Access is relatively straightforward via removed wheel arch panels, while there's enough room above and below for servicing.
