What' the new Land Rover Discovery Sport really made of? Steve Cropley finds out by driving one from the UK factory to the Faroe Islands via mainland Europe. Even design director Gerry McGovern, the man who decides what every new Land Rover will look like, believes that the versatility of the new Discovery Sport is going to be its strongest suit -more than its looks. This, at least, is what he told us when the new Halewood-built soft-roader, a ￡30k-￡40k rival for the BMW X3 and Volvo XC60, was unveiled last autumn. "Others have great design," he told us, "but Land Rovers have class-leading functionality."
