McLaren Automotive won't settle for second best; it wants to beat Porsche and Ferrari at their own game, says CEO Mike Flewitt. Mike Flewitt is a fast talker. It's the third or fourth thing you notice about him, once you've felt the firm handshake, warmed to the modest smile and clocked the immaculate suit (regretting, in the flawless surroundings of the McLaren Technology Centre, that you didn't make a bit more of an effortyourself). It's not that McLaren Automotive's new CEO misses or slurs words like conventional fast talkers. He just doesn't seem to need 'range-finder' sentences, as most do, before an answer can begin in earnest. Ask Flewitt a question and he gets to the point immediately. And when he has answered, he stops. The logic of this is obvious, but it's so unusual as to be almost disconcerting. Without trying, he seems to embody the values on which race-bred companies such as McLaren pride themselves: the ability to deliver in less time than it takes the others.
