Maclurapubescens (Trecul) Z. K. Zhou & M.G. Gilbert, hitherto unreported from India is recorded for the first time from Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh. Revisionary studies of the family Moraceae (excluding Ficus L.) was taken up under the Flora of India Project of Botanical Suevey of India. During the herbarium study at CAL, the first author came across few herbarium specimens of the genus Maclura Nutt., labelled as Cudrania fruticosa Wight ex Kurz collected from Jawai (Jowai) region of Meghalaya and Kameng division of Arunachal Pradesh. After critical study and thorough scrutiny of literature (Kurz, 1877; Hooker, 1888; Kanjilal et al., 1940; Comer, 1962; Samaddare/a/., 1997; Kress et al., 2003; Zhe-kun & Gilbert, 2003; Berg et al., 2006; Giri et al., 2008) and herbarium specimens at ASSAM, these have been identified and confirmed as Madura pubescens (Trecul) Z.K.Zhou and M.G. Gilbert, hitherto unreported from India. This species has been so far reported from China, Indonesia, Malaysia and Myanmar.
