摘要

Among the several vegetables grown in our country okra [Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench] is the most important which can be raised throughout the year. The green and tender fruit is used as vegetable, besides this, the mature fruits and stems are used in paper industry and purifying cane juice in gur making. As a prelude for the commercial exploitation of hybrid vigour, combining ability analysis is employed to identify the desirable parents and to study the nature of gene action. Among several techniques, diallel cross analysis has been most extensively used for identifying parents for hybridization based on combining ability variances and effects. The present investigation was, therefore, under taken to asses both gca and sea variances and effects for yield and nine yield contributing traits to select the parents for effective hybridization programme.
