摘要

Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) is one of the most important cucurbits grown throughout the country. It is consumed as a salad crop worldwide. It is also one of the important crops grown in glasshouse or plastic houses. Inspite of its importance and availability of lot of genetic variation, very little work has been done in this crop. Assessing the genetic variability and exploitation of heterosis can bring about a speedy improvement. Knowledge of gene action of yield and its contributing characters are helpful to formulate an appropriate breeding procedure for achieving the desired objectives for the improvement of the crop. Information of the genetic basis which influences the expression of character is still insignificant in cucumber.
