New herbicides for jangli palak (Rumex retroflexus L.)

Field experiment conducted during winter seasons of 1998-99 and 1999-2000 to evaluate the efficacy of chlorsulfuron, metsulfuron and 2,4-D ester against Rumex sp. (Jangli palak) revealed that chlorsulfuron 25 and 30 g and metsulfuron 4 and 6 g ha~(-1) with 0.1 percent surfactant provided 97 to 98 percent control of this weed when applied 30 DAS in wheat. Similarly, 2,4-D ester and sodium at 425 and 1000 g ha~(-1), respectively, too provided 95 to 98 percent control of this weed. Maximum crop yields of 5856 and 4754 kg ha~(-1) were obtained in season long weed free during both the seasons, respectively. Chlorsulfuron 25 and 30 g, metsulfuron+S at 4 g+0.1 percent or 6 g+0.1 percent, 2,4-D ester at 425 g and 2,4-D sodium salt at 1000 g ha~(-1) applied 30 DAS gave more or less similar yields to that of weed free yields in both the seasons. Chlorsulfuron at 25 and 30 g, metsulfuron 4 and 6 g with 0.1 percent surfactant can be recommended to control jangli palak alongwith 2,4-D in wheat.
