摘要

One of the agro-ecological situations in the flood plains of the Punjab is that fields come to workable conditions quite late during spring season after their being inundated during the preceding monsoon period. Under such conditions, rabi crops cannot be cultivated, however, summer moong and summer mash offer good scope as a catch crop before the start of kharif season. Being legume crops, they improve soil properties and yields of succeeding kharif crops. These pulse crops are invariably infestedwith variety of weeds, which result in as high as 42 to 64 percent reduction in seed yield of summer moong (Singh et al., 1999) and 50 to 80 percent in summer mash (Vats and Sidhu, 1976). Hand weeding is quite costly and labour is also not available atthat time because of sugarcane harvesting/planting and harvesting of raya, etc. Under such situations, herbicides offer a better proposition for weed control in these crops. Studies were, therefore, undertaken during summer seasons of 1997 and 1998 at the Punjab Agricultural University's Regional Research Station for Flood Plain Area, Ropar, to compare bioefficacy of pendimethalin, trifluralin and metolachlor for chemical weed control in these crops.
