In recent years, the use of biological control agents for the management of dreaded soil-borne diseases has been advocated widely. Amongst biocontrol agents, the fungus Trichoderma harzianum has the advantage of being used in varying soil and crop conditions (Jayarajan, 1989). Since the biocontrol fungus is inoculated to soil, there is every possibility interaction and interference would arise with the herbicides which are also applied in soil. Though studies about the disturbance of general equilibrium of the soil microflora due to herbicides are available, reports with special reference to T. harzianum are meagre. Hence, the present investigation was taken up to study the influence of alachlor and pendimethalin on the survival and competitive saprophytic ability of T. harzianum in soil.
