Field experiment was conducted during winter seasons of 1996-97 and 1997-98 to assess the effect of metsulfuronmethyl (MSM) alone and in combination with 2,4-D and surfactant on non-grassy weeds and wheat yield. Results revealed that weed control efficiency of MSM at 4.0 g ha~(-1) applied alone was similar to MSM at 2 g ha~(-1) applied with surfactant. Ready mix formulation of MSM+2.4-D at 2+250 g ha~(-1)+Surfactant had weed control efficacy similar to ready mix formulation of MSM+2.4-D at 2.0+500 gha~(-1)+surfactant or MSM+2.4-D at 4.0+500 g ha~(-1). MSM alone was relatively better than 2,4-D applied alone.There was non-phytotoxic effect of any of the treatments on wheat crop at any stage. Application of ready mix formulation of MSM applied aloneor in combination with 2,4-D and surfactant, being at par among them, had significantly more grain yield compared to application of 2,4-D alone at 500 g ha~(-1) ethyl ester or sodium salt.
