Performance of chlorsulfuron as tank mixture in wheat

Broadleaf weeds viz., Chenopodium album, Rumex retroflexus and grassy weeds like Phalaris minor and Avena ludoviciana were effectively controlled by tank mix application of chlorsulfuron with clodinafop or fenoxaprop in all combinations and providedgrain yield similar to the season long weed-free conditions. After development of resistance in Phalaris minor against isoproturon (Malik and Malik, 1994), clodinafop propargyl and fenoxaprop-e-ethyl have been recommended for control of grassy weeds like P. minor and A. ludoviciana(Waiia etol., 1998). 2, 4-D alone or in combination provides excellent control of broadleaf weeds but causes malformed spikes in wheat cultivars which leads to reduced wheat yields (Balyan and Panwar, 1997). A new sulfonylurea herbicide, chlorsulfuron provides effective control of broadleaf weeds (Beyer etal, 1987; Balyan et al., 2000). So, in the present investigation, efforts were made to find out effectiveness of chlorsulfuron in combination with grassy herbicides for control of complex weed flora in wheat.
