Weed management in transplanted onion under protective irrigated situation

摘要

Onion (Allium cepa L.) is an important commercial vegetable and spice crop. Since it is irrigated throughout growth period, weeds grow luxuriantly and compete well with this crop, because of its slow growth and establishment during initial stages andpoor canopy cover. Weed competition reduced bulb yield of onion to the extent of 40-80 percent depending upon nature, intensity and duration of weed competition (Bhalla, 1978; Patel et al., 1983). Removal of weeds through hand weeding is uneconomical, costly and time consuming. Present investigation was undertaken to test the performance of different herbicides and their low doses integrated with manual weeding in onion crop.
