Biomass yield and quality of six poplar clones and one willow clone grown as Short Rotation Coppice (SRC) at three different sites in Denmark are presented. The yields after the first three years of growth obtained on the coarse sandy soil in Jyndevadwere generally half of the yields obtained at the more fertile soil types in Foulum and Skejby, but the ranking of clones according to their yields was similar at all three sites. The highest yields were produced by Maxl and Max3 in Skejby with up to 28Mg ha"1 DM, whereas the lowest yield was produced by AF8 in Jyndevad with only 6 Mg ha"1 DM after three years. The yields of OP42, Androscoggin and Hybrid275 were around 23 Mg ha"1 DM in Skejby which was similar to the willow clone Inger, whereas in Foulum the yield of Inger was similar to that of the highest yielding poplar clone, Max3, with a yield of 25 Mg ha"1 DM. OP42, Androscoggin and Hybrid275 produced 19-21 Mg ha"1 DM in Foulum. The concentration of inorganic elements (e.g. K, Ca) and total ashcontent were highest in AF8 and Max3 indicating lower fuel quality for combustion while the reference willow clone Inger had lower concentration of elements and ash content than all the poplar clones.
