Out of Africa was the headline to IM April 2008's Comment highlighting the mounting failures of mineral investors in Africa at the time. But what a difference a year and a half can make - and that difference is China. At the time of press, China was preparing to launch a junta on Guinea through a multi-billion dollar natural resources deal following the significant unrest experienced in the west-African country in October. This offers an example of China's strategy to secure the continent's mineral wealth.
