The hydrothermal reaction of H_2 aip (aip~(2-) = 5-aminoisophthalate) and Cd(II) acetate dihydrate yields an unprecedented three-dimensional (3,4)-connected network, [Cd(aip)(H_2O)]·H_2O, with 6~58 topology and interesting photoluminescent behaviour in the solid state.
