The dinuclear complexes (arene)_2Ru_2Cl_4 (arene = benzene,p-cymene,durene,hexamethylbenzene )react in auqeous solution to give,in addition to the known cationic tricchloro complexes [(arene)_2Ru_2(#mu#-Cl)_3]~+,the new dichloro hydroxo cations [(arene)_2Ru_2(#mu#-Cl)_2(#mu#-OH)]~+ which can be isolated as the perrhenate salts.
