A novel cage cluster with nine-vertices[Mo_3(mu_3-S)(mu_3-SCH(CO_2CH_3)CHS_2)(mu-OAc)_2(dtp)_3](1)is obtained by the reaction of[Mo_3(mu_3-S)(mu-S)_3(mu-OAc)(dtp)_3(CH_3CN)](2)with methylpropiolate(MP)in acetonitrile containing acetic acid.X-ray crystallography revealed that the open space of the incomplete cubane-type Mo_3S_4 core was covered by a methyl-propiolate ligand through three C-S bonds.Cluster 1 has been characterized by ~(I3)C and 'H NMR and electronic spectroscopy.
