摘要

Chemical companies have historically made the most of their products using non-living manufacturing systems. Owing to biotechnology and such controversial applications as genetically modified organisms, however, they now increasingly use living systems. As the industry moves from chemistry to biology; the number and complexity of the stakeholder issues it faces is growing. According to this study, most life sciences companies have failed to acknowledge those issues of greatest concern to the public. At the heart of the problem is the fact that companies which are still essentially chemical producers are moving into consumer-driven food markets, but usually without the consumer-oriented focus and communications practices necessary to earn the trust and respect of outside stakeholders.
