I have read the article by Yang et al. "Treatment of distal tibial metaphyseal fractures: Plating versus shortened intramedullary nailing".I would like congratulate the authors for their valuable contribution.They found that valgus angulation was larger in patients treated with intramedullary nailing compared to patients treated with plating, but malunion did not differ between the groups.7 The authors concluded that both plate fixation and shortened IM nailing were effective for treating distal tibial metaphyseal fractures.The treatment of unstable distal tibia fractures is very diffucult, as the mechanism of injury and prognosis of these fractures are both different from pilon fractures.
