Pelvic fractures with haemodynamic compromise are generally high energy injuries. Stable pelvic fractures in the form of pubic rami factures are comparatively common in elderly patients due to the combination of osteoporosis and incidence of falls, and tend to be regarded as benign. Rarely there is concomitant arterial injury. The artery responsible has been aptly named corona mortis, the "crown of death", for its potentially catastrophic haemorrhage and the difficulty in achieving haemostasis. We report the case of an elderly patient who suffered a stable pubic ramus fracture following a fall. The patient was originally haemodynamically stable but soon deteriorated and angiography showed major haemorrhage from branches of both external and internal iliac arteries that needed embolisation.
