摘要

Members of the European Parliament's International Trade (INTA) Committee last week approved a resolution endorsing the launch of comprehensive trade negotiations between the United States and European Union, but laid out several key demands for the talks, such as a complete exclusion of audiovisual services from the negotiations. The resolution approved on April 25 also urged the European Commission to maintain strong protections for personal data; negotiate rules on financial services; maintain the "precautionary principle" in regulating genetically modified organisms (GMOs), cloning and consumer health; and address U.S. restrictions in maritime and air transport services. It also specifically calls for the U.S. to lift an import ban on EU beef products as a "trust-building measure," referring to U.S. restrictions put in place to protect against bovine spongiform encephalopathy.
