Leyland Motors was the largest heavy commercial vehicle maker in the world by the 1950s and over the next couple of decades acquired a number of rivals. The rest is history: the ill-fated acquisition of the British Motor Corporation in the 1970s, merger of the truck division with DAF Trucks of the Netherlands and disposal of the bus division in the 1980s, before collapse into receivership and subsequent revival in the 1990s.
