Sales at FEI Co(Hillsboro,OR)in the fourth quarter of calendar 2006 easily topped the company's expectations of 125-132 million,with revenues of 140.3 million,a rise of 41 % compared to the prior-year period.The company's "strong performance" in the quarter,according to president and CEO of FEI,Don Kania,was boosted by a recent order of electron microscopes from the University of Denmark,the company's largest ever at 11.5 million(see Instruments 24(1)9),and a gain after tax of 2.8 million from the sale of the software subsidiary,Knights Technology.
