Earnings at VWR International Inc(West Chester,PA)swung into the red in the second quarter of calendar 2007,the company's first report since it was sold by its venture-capital parent to another(see Instrumenta 24(6)8).Despite growing sales by 5% from the corresponding period last year to 856.2 million,largely due to positive currency effects and the acquisition in April of the German distributor KMF Laborchemie(see Instrumenta 24(5)8),losses were 54.8 million compared to earnings of 19.2 million in the prior year quarter.
