Applied Biosystems Group (ABI;Foster City,CA),the instruments subsidiary of Applera Corp(Norwalk,CT),has delivered the first units of its next-generation DNA sequencing instrument,the SOUD~(TM)System,to early access customers,including among others,Stanford University.In addition,ABI is taking orders from other customers for the instrument,which is based on a sequencing-by-ligation technology bought in a year ago with the acquisition of Agencourt Personal Genomics(APG)for 120 million(see Instrumenta 23(7)3).
