THE INCREASE IN electronics, radio applications, and digital clock frequencies, along with the changing directives from the regulatory bodies, has created a greater need to consider radiated interference between individual equipment and adjacent circuits on PCBs. The shielding of this interference needs to be considered with all the other design aspects of a product and preferable at an early stage to avoid costly modifications to PCB layouts or equipment re-designs after the initial visits to the test facility. Other issues to consider are product testing, handling of the shielding in production, the change to non-lead solder and, last but not least, cost.
