摘要

A survey of dermatological diseases in dogs was conducted in seven Veterinary Hospitals spread in three districts of tarai/hill region of Uttar Pradesh for a period of one year (from September, 1996 to August, 1997). The analysis of data collected revealed that out of a total morbidity of 3710 cases during the period under report, dermatological ailments accounted for 13.04 per cent morbidity (484 cases). With respect to age and sex-wise distribution, the highest prevalence was observed in adult maledogs (15.0 - per cent), followed by adult females (10.8 per cent) and young ones (6.2 per cent), respectively. This higher prevalence in adult male dogs might be possibly attributed to the wandering habit of male dogs and this may partly be exhibited due to hormonal influences (Shah, 1994). The higher prevalence in male dogs has also been mentioned by other workers (Yathiraj et al., 1990, Sharma et al., 1993).
