Ways and means to achieve the cost effectiveness through mechanization and sustainability in sugarcane and sugar production are the need of the hour, the increasing cost of sugarcane production resulted in considerable reduction in the profits of sugar industry. Paradoxically, soil health, environmental quality etc are the sustainability factors to be addressed simultaneously. In this direction, wider row planting technique is proved to accomplish multifarious advantages and agro practices with wider scope for mechanisation to focus on cost effectiveness and sustainability in sugarcane production. This planting technique in relation to mechanisation and sustainability of sugarcane production is discussed in this paper.
